Filipino Ignorance

It was around 7 in the evening and I was in a jeepney, on my way to our condo. I came a across a graffiti saying..

Noynoy, tuta ng kano!

I smirked a little upon seeing this. What’s funny you asked? Well.. 3 years ago, I came across this exact statement except for the name. It’s written like this..

Gloria, tuta ng kano!

Same statement but with different name. By the way, these names are the names of the previous and current president of the Philippines. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Benigno Aquino Jr. When I saw the graffiti, I came to think how ignorant some Filipinos are. I am a Filipino but sometimes I’m ashamed of how my countrymen think and act. I’m not bashing at anyone here alright? It’s just funny how people say something like that to the person they elected to be their president. This is the number 1 problem of us Filipinos. Admit it, most of us don’t even study the background profile and achievements of our candidates. Some are qualified, and by qualified I mean capable and knowledgeable of the task he/she will be taking when elected, and some are not (obviously). Here, you just have to have a “name” or be famous to get elected *sigh*.

Going back. “Tuta ng kano” which translates as American puppy. You know how puppies are like, they keep on following and feeding off those who are good to them. Mostly the term “tuta” when used in the Philippines is called a follower.  But, come to think of it, we are all followers here in the Pearl of the Orient. Look at the everyday things you are using, look at the gadgets you are currently reading this from. Those are all imported from other countries. Look at how we dress! We copy not only the Americans but also the Europeans, Chinese, Japenese, Koreans, etc. That’s why “Kpop” is a big thing here. Have we produced a trend where other countries copies us? No. This is the same as being a “tuta ng kano”. We are always the ones who follows.

The president is only one man. He can’t do this by himself. There’s a saying “The people shouldn’t be afraid of their Government. The Government should be afraid of its people.”. Both the people and government should work together, every little deeds counts. Like to abide by the rules, will greatly show a significant change. Bottom line is.. Stop blaming others and think for a second. We are all to blame on what is happening in the Philippines. We are Filipinos and this is our country.

The world is yours… Scarface

“Who do I trust?? Me!!” This is that one line that can describe the whole movie. But before you get ahead of yourself, you should watch this amazing movie. Here you will hear the famous “Say hello to my little friend!!” then boom! See the great Al Pacino at work as a protagonist and antagonist at the same time! See what money and power can do to a person once they’ve got it.  Friendship, loyalty, love, treachery then greed.

Sunset in Manila

After a long tiring day with my friends, I finally came home at our condo. I was tired and just threw all my stuffs (bag, wallet, watch, phone, etc.) aside and when I went outside on our balcony. And wouldn’t you know it this stumbled into my eyes (I don’t know if stumble is the right word to use but.. you get the point).  So I got my phone and took a quick picture, hoping to get a good one. The sky was almost clear and the tides were calm. It’s just the perfect time to admire this beautiful sunset here in my most dearest country, Philippines.

I would have inserted a lot more picture of the sunset but seeing from the photos, it all looks almost the same. The sun just slowly goes down beyond the horizon. It was a good sight to see just before the afternoon ends. There was also this time where I went outside our balcony and saw this very stunning full moon but I wasn’t able to get a good shot of it.. oh well.

Zark’s Burger

If you are happen to be around taft specifically around La Salle. You might want to try this restaurant named Zark’s Burgers. This burger joint is very familiar with La Salle students (like me) because it’s just a few steps away from their doorsteps. But this restaurant and their huge and I mean HUGE burgers is slowly becoming popular to most people in or outside Metro Manila. Even my friends from Laguna knows about this.

They have a lot of varieties of burgers to choose. They name their burgers after some of the famous NBA basketball players like Shaq and Kobe Bryant. If burger is what you are after then there are two categories of burger to choose from. There is the Minor League where all of the burger patties are quarter pound while there is also the Major League, this is for the big boys. There are half pound patties and even a one pound patties!

Now that burger that you see is named “Jawbreaker burger”. Why is it named that way you ask? Well it’s just what the name says! It has a triple cheeseburger, which I think are all quarter pound, that is topped with spam and bacon. You can already have a full appetite by just reading this lol just kidding but what I say is true. If you want to finish this burger you have to have a empty or nearly empty stomach because I assure you that you’ll get stuffed with this one.

This burger comes with a challenge but I didn’t take it because I wanted to just enjoy this burger 🙂 The challenge is you have to finish all that is on the plate and a glass of iced tea in just 5 MINUTES. If you successfully finish it before the timer runs out then it is free of charge! Great deal isn’t it? But in my opinion, you will not be able to enjoy that burger.

So if you want to try this burger and all those other burgers that they are offering then come by here at Taft! I believe Zarks have their website and their specific location but they are located at the Archer’s nook, just above army navy. Good luck if you’ll go up with the challenge. Btw, there is also another challenge with a even larger burger involved.
